Default Issue Regarding Nika

I know this question's probably been asked before, but why in the world does Nika look the way she does (i.e. not Canthan)?

I know it's a small thing to ask, but I think it could have been an excellent opportunity to open more backstory on her character, especially when she has a "past shrouded in mystery" and a mysterious father who died before her birth.

I always personally forwarded that, Nika's father was probably Ascalonian and her mother Canthan, which would explain why she looks mixed.

But anyway, when A-net released Factions, besides having a poor storyline, I think they should have expanded more on key characters, especially with Nika because there was just so much potential to her story besides just having one famous ancestor. That way, her deeper story could make up for the fact that she just sucks as a henchmen.

Just my two cents.

She looked like Vizu in the preview event but they reworked her for some reason:

Gwiki has a picture of her:

Let's keep the crap out of this thread this time, ok?

Anyway, I always thought she looked odd but never really cared. She's just...unimportant in the scope of the actual story. Could be true, who knows?

Yeah, I got what you mean. I just wanted to bring up the issue, because with me being Asian myself, I found it kinda weird that they used a really non-Asian looking character to represent an expansion in a specifically Asian setting.

Honestly, though, I hate when they just put in characters that seem very pivotol, but end up not making much out of them besides the fact that they might give one quest and later on join your party.

Oh just another thing. Personally it would have been interesting if Nika actually turned out to be Rurik's half-sister (because his dad had an affair in Cantha or something). That way, there would be more of a connection to Chapter 1, with Nika actually finding out she's a princess of a distant and unfamiliar land.

Personally, I hated the fact that they used Mhenlo as the connecting character, simply because he was a monk. Because let's admit, the GW monks are basically Asian monks and the Mhenlo connection felt like it was done more out of Asian stereotype as opposed to doing it through deeper storyline and character exploration.

Oh, BTW, do any of you think there's a significance to Nika's hair color. Apparently the dying of hair seems to run in Nika's family (at least the females), so there might be a deeper meaning behind it.

Because blue/purple seems to be a prevalent color in Cantha (might actually be Cantha's national color, since a lot of upper class Canthans wear it, including the Emperor). Perhaps the dying of hair with that same color could indicate a deep devotion to Cantha within her family, kinda like an American wearing a red, white, and blue bandana for the sake of patriotism.

Whats to say the hairs dyed? perhaps the hair is genetically that way (gw is a magical world after all, why cant purple hair be natural in the same was blond or brown is in real life)

I would say it is highly possible she has mixed heritage but non the less she is still the decentant of the mighty Vizu and they do share similar looks.

Similar looks? Are you talking in terms of the Factions Cinematic or in game? Because if it's in game, Vizu actually looks VERY Canthan whereas, Nika doesn't, so there wouldn't be that much similarity in their looks besides equipment and hair color.

Besides even though she is a descendent of the mighty Vizu, she still has a sucky AI as a henchman!

(sigh) Now, if only "mighty" could be passed down genetically...

This guy explains it to us:

Shes named after one of the Anet employees that worked on factions

Search for Nika Here and you will end up with Nika Futterman who worked on factions. Go to Wikipedia and type Nika Futterman and it will give you some info and a link to her Official site wich has a picture of her and explains a lot. Period

Thanks Shadow Kurd! I can see where Anet got the name for the character.

However, based on the head shot of Nika Futterman, I don't think they actually based the character's appearance on her. They don't look similar at all, not even by facial features (other than the fact that they're both caucasian looking).
